One of the six spiritual pillars of Bali, the Pura Luhur Uluwatu shares the same mesmerising backdrop as Tanah Lot. Sitting on the western shores of the island, the temple is overlooking the endless vistas of Indian Ocean and stages daily Kecak dance performances in the evening. Established by a monk, the temple exudes royalty with its typical Balinese architecture, traditionally-designed gateways and sculptures. It is also home for hundreds of monkeys that dwell in the forest nearby. It is believed to be that the Uluwatu temple mirrors all elements of life in the universe and protects Bali from evil sea spirits.
