The Nijo Castle is one of the most iconic destinations in Japan that traces back to the ancient history of Japan, showcasing the power of the Shoguns.


A castle reminiscent of the glorious past of Japan, rich with heritage and stories of the shoguns who resided there several centuries ago – the Nijo Castle stands tall and proud, a beacon amidst the iconic architecture of ancient japan. One of the most popular destinations in Kyoto this palace has been a part of history since 1603 as the official residence of Shogun Ieyasu who had the castle constructed to depict his stature in the society and the power wielded by the Shoguns over Japan for most of its history.

The castle boasts of several secret additions to catch thieves like the nightingale flooring which were called so as they creaked to produce the sound of the bird when stepped on. The elegantly decorated ceilings and intricately painted doorways/ sliding doors are spread out throughout the hotel and the outside area spreads into traditional Japanese gardens with large ponds, manicured trees and ornamental stones.
