Why to buy

  • Enjoy private lessons as you learn to play the Koto, or traditional Japanese Harp, with certification at the end of the class.
  • This is a fun experience for both beginners as well as people with experience in string instruments.
  • Adorn the Kimono (for women), Samue (for men), and the Yukata,Karate & Kendo uniform (for Kids) during your session.

One of the things that have always pulled at the strings of our hearts is the Shirabe, or the Japanese Harp. This instrument brings forth a melodious and flowing sound that has been part of the Japanese culture for over 1300 years and has even played a part in healing and inspiring the soul.

Learn to play the koto, also called the shirabe, in this one-hour session. This is a completely private lesson and you shall get a chance to understand the basics of the instrument. You can also put on traditional Japanese clothing for your class - Kimonos shall be given to the women while the men shall adorn the Samue. Kids wear the Yukata, Karate and Kendo uniform. You will also be served some Japanese Tea during the lesson.

There are two styles of playing the koto. The Ikuta style which uses square-edged picks and the Yamada style that has round-edged picks to play the harp. Learn more about the cultural value behind this and quench any curiosity in this one-hour session. You shall also receive certification by Sakura Experience Japanese Culture Center.
