One of the Seven Wonders Of The World, the Chichen Itza is an archaeological site that holds the key to understanding the history and culture of the ancient Mayans. The site has stood the test of time and features several architectural marvels of social relevance giving a glimpse of life in pre-Columbian times.

Chichen Itza is undoubtedly the largest of the great archaeological cities of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization in the Yucatan peninsula. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the name “Chichen Itza” means, “at the mouth of the well of Itza” and the site features a large central “Castillo”, “The Great Ball Court”, “The North Temple”, “The Skull Platform” and the awe-inspiring, “Temple of the Warriors”. Looking back into the history of the Chichen Itza, it has been concluded that the site was home to an entire village and the remaining architecture and carvings give insight into the purpose of the buildings or the lifestyle of the people. The main Kukulkan Pyramid is exactly twenty-four meters high and has a display of carvings around its base, each of the carvings having a different story to tell. With a wide range of buildings and nearby structures, each part of the site has a different story to tell, from ball games to division of warriors and the religious ceremonies and the deities they were performed for. The several cenotes around the Chichen Itza are also stunning places to visit and take a swim in.
