Join your friends and family on this cultural tour that takes you around the province of Chiang Rai. Begin your journey from Chiang Mai, pass through the lush valleys and tropical greenery on your way to the first stop of the day- Mae Khachan Hot Spring. After a quick break, move on to the next attraction- Wat Rong Khun. Popularly known as the White Temple, it stands out from the rest of the temples in Chiang Rai, owing to its colors and infrastructure. Take some time to appreciate this Buddhist temple before heading towards the next spot of the day.
From here, we move on to the famous intersection point of three countries, known as the Golden Triangle. Encapsulated by high mountains and dense jungles, the fertile area is also known for its opium farming past. Hop on to the boat trip along Khong River, explore the misty valley and take in the scenic trident border of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos where opium was traded for gold.
Moving on, the next temple to visit is one of the oldest in Chiang Rai. Wat Phra That Chedi Luang is a Lanna styled Buddhist stupa built in the shape of a huge bell. The largest 'chedi', this impressive structure was built circa 1290. Spend about thirty minutes here, admiring the inside of the temple and reveling in the peace.
The last stop for the day is at the House of Opium, a museum that gives you an insider look at the opium trade in Chiang Mai. Get familiar with the past, learn more about the opium culture, and end this trip with a fantastic Thai lunch.
