Constructed in 1635 by the Dutch West India Company, the Fort Amsterdam is a structure that is steeped in history and culture. The bright colored buildings mark the Dutch architecture while the courtyard itself is beautiful. The Fortkirche, located on the grounds, is the oldest church on the island and is open to the public. You can enter through the gates on the western side and click some pictures to remember the day by, during your walking tour here. Having once defended the invading armies, it is now home to the government offices which makes some of the sections off limit to tourists, but it is still a good place to visit for those who appreciate colonial architecture and historic sites.
