One of the hidden gems of the Dominican Republic, Laguna de Bavaro is a delightful spot to enjoy kayaking, fishing, hiking, boating, and bird watching through a tunnel of mangroves.


Fringed by a delicate strip of mangroves, the Bávaro Lagoon is less known amongst tourists and many of the locals as well. Home to over 200 species of endemic plants, 86 species of birds, 5 species of amphibians, 11 species of reptiles, Laguna de Bavaro also houses the unique species of Cyprinodon Higuey fish.

Laguna de Bavaro has been declared as a Protected Area and Wildlife Refuge of the Dominican Republic; to protect many of these species, which could fall into the danger of extinction.
