This tour will give the chance to explore Santo Domingo, the first city of the Americas. Learn about the history and culture of the Dominican Republic as you stroll through the narrow walkways of the yesteryears and unveil the simplistic beginnings of the New World. Your tour will start early morning at 7:00 AM when you will be picked up from your hotel. Your first stop will be an opportunity to pay homage to the first Cathedral of the Americas, the birthplace of a strong Catholic faith. Make sure to enter with proper attire and pay your respects. Next you will be whisked off to the National Pantheon, a towering building which was once a Jesuit church and holds great historical significance. It is now the final resting place of many national heroes. You will also get a chance to walk through the Museo de la Casas Reales, formerly the Governmental Palace, which holds an alluring range of colonial-era artifacts and weaponry on display. You will also travel back in time and learn about the life and times of the first Spanish conquistadors.
The tour will also head through the ancient residential areas, Columbus Lighthouse, and the National Presidential Palace, all of which will give you a taste of the art and architecture of the colonial era. After exploring the Colonial zone to the fullest the group will then head for an authentic lunch experience at the traditional restaurant called Ataranza, where you can relish some of the finest dishes of the Dominican Republic. The tour will also take you to the most popular shopping area in Santo Domingo so that you can explore the markets and take home some authentic craft items and popular export items like rum and cigars. After the shopping stops, the tour will then head back to drop you to your hotel.
